St. Anastasia Island and exotic fisherman village Chengene Skele are opening the tourist season before Easter

Sea trips to the beautiful island of St. Anastasia and the cultural and historical complex Chengene Skele near Burgas will be resumed in the next few days, reports Bgtourism.bg.

The ships to St. Anastasia depart from the port of Burgas. There will be two trips a day until mid-May and three trips after that.

The tiny island, which will be welcoming its first tourists as early as April 16, is an increasingly desirable destination for private events such as weddings, birthdays and other celebrations.

St. Anastasia Island, formerly known as "Bolshevik", is home to the only surviving Bulgarian Medieval island monastery. It was a detention centre for political prisoners during the communist regime. Nowadays, the island has a restaurant, a hotel, a museum, a welcoming beach with a small harbour, and a so-called healing room where one can buy organic products.

In 2021, the island was visited by 28,000 tourists, but its owners expect an even stronger season based on advance bookings.

This year in Bulgaria there will be 4 days off during the Orthodox Easter (from 22 to 25 April). The tourism industry relies mainly on Bulgarian tourists to partially compensate for the losses from the pandemic crisis. The picturesque fisherman village and nowadays cultural and tourist complex Chengene Skele will be an essential part of the festive program of Burgas Municipality.

On Saturday and Sunday (16th and 17th of April), are the Christian holidays of St. Lazarus Day and Palm Sunday. They will be celebrated with a series of festive activities in the complex - a colorful spring bazaar, photo exhibition, art workshops, a concert of the Folk Dance Ensemble "Strandja", etc.

An increased flow of tourists is expected in the days around Easter, including the first organized groups of foreign tourists for the season.
