At a regular meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg, Member States reaffirmed their readiness to continue providing assistance to Ukraine in all areas, including defense capabilities, social and humanitarian aid, reception of refugees, etc. At the forum, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Teodora Genchovska assured those present that Bulgaria continues to support Ukraine strongly, adding that the country has welcomed more than 70,000 refugees and continues to provide humanitarian aid.
According to Minister Genchovska, coordination within NATO is extremely important and will continue to strengthen. Bulgaria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs called for enhanced cooperation with international partners "for further diplomatic isolation of the Russian aggressor, as well as for firm opposition to Russian hybrid threats."
Minister Genchovska pointed out that the sixth package of European sanctions against Russia will probably become a fact at the end of May, when an extraordinary meeting of European leaders will take place in Brussels.
In addition to Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, the EU foreign ministers also discussed the situation in the Western Balkans, as well as the situation in Libya and Mali.
Within the framework of the council meeting, Minister Genchovska held a meeting with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
