“We shall continue to support Ukraine in accordance with our capabilities,” Bulgarian Foreign Minister Teodora Genchovska said at a press conference in Sofia, given jointly with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. “91,000 Ukrainians have been welcomed in Bulgaria,” Minister Genchovska added.

I came here, to Bulgaria, to thank the people of Bulgaria and the government of Bulgaria for embracing Ukrainian refugees in your country,” Dmytro Kuleba on his part said. “Since the very beginning of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, Bulgaria has been a vocal and consistent supporter of Ukraine in both the EU and NATO. And I am sure that Bulgaria is doing that because of our traditional friendly relations, but also because it understands that the security of Ukraine means also the security of Bulgaria (…) I would like to thank Bulgaria for consistently supporting the European perspective of Ukraine,” Minister Kuleba said and added he was aware of the role of Russia in the history of Bulgaria, but that “Russia we are dealing with today is different: this Russia destroys, kills, tortures, rapes. This is not Russia that deserves sympathy and understanding”.
