Rob Bauer is in Bulgaria to discuss strengthening the defence of NATO's south-eastern flank in the context of the war in Ukraine and the adaptation of the Alliance in response to the changed geopolitical security environment.

Admirals Eftimov and Bauer will take part in a demonstration tomorrow during the joint training of a combat group at the Novo Selo training area.

“Bulgaria expects timely support from its allies so it can preserve the defence capabilities of the Bulgarian army and modernize its armed forces,” said President Rumen Radev, who held a meeting with Admiral Rob Bauer, Chair of the NATO Military Committee. The Bulgarian head of state also had a telephone conversation with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, with a focus on preserving the potential of the transport corridors in Eastern Europe and the measures to be taken so that the war in Ukraine does not lead to a humanitarian crisis in the country and in the regions neighbouring on the EU.
