Olympic karate champion Ivet Goranova won a silver medal in the 55kg kumite category at the 57th European Karate Championships in Gaziantep, Turkey.

In the final of the Tokyo Olympics last August, Goranova defeated Ukraine's Angelika Terlyuga 5-1 to win the gold medal, but now lost to the Olympic runner-up and finished second at the European Championships.
In the career of the 22-year-old Goranova, this is the sixth medal from a major championship. She has two bronze medals from the World Cup - Dubai (UAE) 2021 and Madrid (Spain) 2018.
The Bulgarian karate fighter has also won the title of the European Games in Minsk 2019, bronze at the European Championships in Guadalajara, Spain, 2019, but her greatest achievement so far remains from the Olympics in Tokyo.
