There is no immediate military threat to Bulgaria's territorial integrity and sovereignty, reads an extraordinary text in the Defense Ministry's report on the state of defense last year, included because of the war in Ukraine.

The report was adopted by the government days ago but was published this week. It also said there were "serious risks to national security" and called for the deployment of "troops and Alliance forces" in the country.

Experts believe it is necessary "to deploy Forward Presence (eFP) Alliance battalions in the south-east of the country". The document calls for an accelerated modernization process with "annual earmarked funding from the state budget".

There is a risk that even with the increase, by the end of the year GDP for defense will be below the target of 2%.
