The largest Bulgarian trade union CITUB (Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria) has requested an extraordinary meeting of the Consultative Council for the European Green Deal, because of the Road Map to climate neutrality. The union is not satisfied with the planned decarbonization of the energy sector and the cessation of coal burning by 2030-2038.

We will not engage in a discussion of extreme scenarios that can be used to make a political decision to shut down coal-fired power plants.

The fact that a number of countries are taking action to review their political decisions on coal energy shows that Bulgaria must also show maturity and not allow the artificial creation of crises with electricity supplies, CITUB stated.
