The art gallery in the Danubian city of Ruse hosts a unique exhibition attracting great interest. Under the title "Materialization of Surrealism", the exhibition presents 60 original works by genius artist of the 20th century, Salvador Dali.
Visitors can see his lithographs, silver works, tapestries, design works, etc. They are presented in five thematic sections - "Surrealistic Flowers", "The Twelve Apostles or the Knights of the Round Table", "Benvenuto Cellini", a series of illustrations to "The Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway and other various works by Salvador Dali.
The eccentric artist's autograph is generally accepted proof of authorship and originality of each of the exhibited works and is protected by all existing copyright laws. The idea is to help the audience see how Salvador Dali materialized his views through a special artistic language in the form of images that often take on an intangible appearance, but are clearly felt by the viewer, the hosts of the exhibition say.
"Salvador Dali has often been compared to Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. He could draw any object with photographic accuracy, bring it from a dream to reality. His paintings still impress people to this day," the curator of the event Vasiliy Kesauri told BNR-Shumen. He is also a member of the family that owns the Dali collection. His family has Georgian roots, but he has been living in France for years.
So far, the exhibition has visited galleries in Poland, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and Slovakia. The family’s private collection also includes works by artists such as Chagall, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec. About 1300-1400 artworks from the collection are by Salvador Dali, Kesauri says. The exhibition will stay in Ruse until the end of October.
