The arrested migrants - mainly from Syria and Afghanistan, were in groups of two or three people and lived in different parts of the city, it was reported. In addition, people who might be involved in the trafficking of migrants were brought in for questioning at the police stations in Sofia.

It is a practice of traffickers to abandon illegal migrants on the Trakia highway not far from the capital city. During the operations of the Ministry of the Interior, foreign citizens with regular migrant status who are trying to go to Western Europe are often detected.
