GERB is ready to withdraw its candidate for Speaker of the National Assembly, Rosen Zhelyazkov. Before the second presidential council, the chairperson of the GERB-SDS parliamentary group, Desislava Atanasova pointed out that the coalition was ready to stand behind a consensus figure that would be supported by the majority. "We need to have a decision on the chair today,” Atanasova said. “Otherwise, this would block the possibility of starting the constitutional procedure for handing over the mandates. We also think about not insisting on a Speaker of the Parliament being from the largest political power and taking a step back."

Atanasova expressed the hope that if there was a candidate, 240 MPs would stand behind him or her. The co-chairman of "Democratic Bulgaria" Hristo Ivanov, called on all formations to withdraw their candidates and suggested that a different formula should be found and it would exclude a politically motivated nomination.
