The bill on the ratification of an international agreement on the acquisition of another eight F-16C/D Block 70 fighter aircraft, ammunition, training and maintenance equipment is to be discussed in parliament today.

A few days ago the manufacturer Lockheed Martin announced that the first F-16 Block 70 fighter jets Bulgaria has commissioned and paid for are already in production. The contract for the purchase of a second batch of eight F-16s has already been approved by the caretaker government. Minister of Defence Dimitar Stoyanov pointed out that the country needs another 8 aircraft to have a full squadron of 16 jets. Vazrazhdane and the Bulgarian Socialist Party have stated their opposition to this decision.
