Bulgarian baby abandoned in Ukraine arrives in Sofia

The State Agency for Child Protection (SACP) has successfully returned to Bulgaria a one-and-a-half-year-old Bulgarian child who was abandoned in Ukraine by his biological parents immediately after birth. The parents provided a notary-certified consent for adoption.

The toddler will be accommodated in an appropriate child care service, the agency said. The Kiev guardianship and protection authority's reason for sending the child to Bulgaria is that Ukraine cannot guarantee its safety in war conditions.

"I am extremely happy and grateful to all institutions and partners from the non-governmental sector that with joint efforts a child will receive the necessary care in a supporting and protected environment," said SACP Chairperson Dr. Teodora Ivanova at Sofia Airport.
