After the Council of Ministers approved a draft of a state budget act for 2023 with a 3% deficit, the Ministry of Finance published a draft of amendments to the Code of Tax and Social Security Procedure for public discussion.

The draft proposes tax amendments aimed at creating additional sources of revenue in the state budget so as to improve revenue collection with the aim of attaining the budget deficit set down. The amendments include doing away with some of the tax and excise duty rebates introduced over the health and the economic crisis during the past three years, having failed to demonstrate their efficiency as regards any benefits for consumers and for the market. A solidarity installment on excess profits generated in the 1 July, 20223-31 December, 2023 period is also proposed.
