Bomb threats close schools across Bulgaria for fourth day running

For the 4th day in a row, bomb alerts have been received by email at a number of schools across the country. Hundreds of students in Sofia, Varna, Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, Stara Zagora, Pleven, Sliven, Dobrich have been evacuated.

"At the moment, there are no real threats either to the education system or to the elections. Until we see the source clearly established, we cannot say with certainty exactly where the threats are coming from and who is carrying them out," commented President Rumen Radev.

Since voting in the parliamentary elections on April 2 is supposed to take place in school buildings, police officers will be stationed in front of each polling station, Simeon Tsvetkov, chairman of a section election committee in Sofia, told Nova TV.

In the event of a threat signal, the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will instruct the members of the election committees on how to act, Tsvetkov said.
