Today we mark the 100th birth anniversary of composer Petar Stupel. He was born on April 27, 1923 in Sofia, in the family of professional musicians. Petar Stupel studied at the State Academy of Music "Pancho Vladigerov", majoring in Piano under Professor Andrey Stoyanov. He studied composition in the classes of Professor Pancho Vladigerov. After he graduated from the State Academy of Music he specialised in composition and chamber music at the Ferenz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest.
In the beginning of his professional career he worked as a music editor at the Music Section of Radio Sofia.
Petar Stupel composed a substantial ammount of of popular children's songs like “Zaychentseto Byalo (Little Snow-White Bunny)” and "I sam Suncho" created together with Dimitar Nikolov Spasov for the TV show "Good Night, Children" broadcast on the Bulgarian National Television.
He also composed classical pieces, film music and many music hits like “The Snow of the Memory”, “Veselina”, etc.
Let us remember Petar Stupel with the song “Zakasneli Sreshti/ Late Meetings” performed by Maria Neykova and Mihail Belchev. Petar Stupel wrote the music. Petar Karaangov authored the lyrics to the piece. In 1969, the song won the First Prize at the Golden Orpheus song contest.
