A protest under the motto: “Not a single woman more; changes to the law, now!” is taking place in front of the National Assembly as the MPs from the legal affairs committee are entering the building. The committee is to hold a meeting today to approve the proposals for amendments to the criminal code and the Protection Against Domestic Violence Act.

Including an intimate partner within the range of people entitled to protection under the Protection Against Domestic Violence Act, more crisis centres, ratification of the Istanbul Convention - these are some of the demands raised by the protesters.

Nadejda Dermendjieva from the Bulgarian Fund for Women stated there were 13 crisis centre in the country, and 15 regions where there are none. According to Kamelia Tseneva from Feminist Mobilisations, the changes promised must have time frames because any delay can cost many human lives.
