In Yambol, protesters have called against NATO allied bases in the region. Organizers are the "Levitsa" coalition, which also launched a petition under the motto "Yambol does not want NATO bases". The occasion for the protest is the proposal of Defense Minister Todor Tagarev for establishment of multinational divisional headquarters in the area.

"We do not want increased military presence because we are a peace-loving people," the leader of "Movement 21", Tatyana Doncheva, said. "We don't want Bulgaria to become an instrument of any foreign policy towards another country," Doncheva added. "The lack of interest on the part of the MPs representing the local people is startling, but with the beginning of the new parliamentary season, this topic should become a public one," chairman of the "ABV" party, Rumen Petkov, said.
