Wildfire in Greece is just ten kilometers away from the Bulgarian border

The Bulgarian forestry authorities are monitoring the development of the forest fire in the area of Alexandroupolis, Northern Greece, and have visited the affected region. The fire has nearly reached the Bulgarian border and is just some 10 kilometers away.

Currently there is no danger for the residents of Zlatograd and the forest areas near the town. Keeping in mind the dynamic situation and the proximity, preventive measures have already been taken to protect the people living in the border region, as well as the forests. Heavy equipment is working on site to ensure the passability of the mountain roads near Zlatograd. All services responsible for forest management are ready to take timely action if necessary, it was reported.
