Justice Minister Slavov discusses proposed amendments to Bulgaria's Constitution with Venice Commission rapporteurs

Bulgaria's Minister of Justice Atanas Slavov

Bulgaria’s Minister of Justice Atanas Slavov discussed the proposed amendments to the Bulgarian Constitution with rapporteurs of the Venice Commission who are paying a visit to Bulgaria. Their visit to Sofia is part of the procedure for collecting opinions on the forthcoming changes to the basic law before the Venice Commission adopts an official position in early October.

Atanas Slavov emphasized the three main areas in the proposed draft: reform of the judiciary, strengthening parliamentarism by changing the status of caretaker governments and the introduction of individual constitutional appeal. The Venice Commission rapporteurs will also meet with representatives of the Supreme Judicial Council, the Presidency and the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Affairs.
