Movement for Rights and Freedoms MP Delyan Peevski told journalists that his party will propose Bulgaria's membership in the EU and NATO to be enshrined in the Constitution. Thus, the country’s membership of the two alliances would not be subject to referendum.
The same proposal was made a few months ago by public figures and intellectuals, including President Rosen Plevneliev (2012-2017), Solomon Passy and others.
On October 6, the National Assembly failed to adopt amendments to the constitution at first reading. 161 MPs voted in favour. In order to change the Constitution, 180 votes are needed. "On December 6 we will actually vote the amendments to the basic law at first reading. We will propose that the term of the Prosecutor General be 5 years without the possibility of re-election", said Delyan Peevski who is sanctioned under the Global Magnitsky Act.
