Parliament approves $1.376 billion purchase of US combat vehicles

MPs approved the updated project for the purchase of armoured vehicles for the army. The project involves 198 combat, reconnaissance and command and staff vehicles, special nuclear, chemical and biological reconnaissance vehicles, medical evacuation, engineering support, transport and evacuation vehicles at a total cost of 2.5 billion leva, or 1.376 billion dollars. According to the proponent, the Council of Ministers, the project will achieve better compatibility with NATO member states and reduce critical dependence on non-NATO and non-EU countries. The decision was strongly criticised by the opposition.
