Bulgarian business wants compensations for expensive electricity

Energy-intensive enterprises in Bulgaria are threatened to limit or close production due to high electricity prices. In budget 2024, there is no money envisaged for energy compensations for businesses, for hospitals, schools, kindergartens, and other non-household users. This is what Dobri Mitrev, chairman of the Bulgarian Industrial Association, told BNR.

In a letter to the government, BIA pointed out that the European Commission had proposed to extend the temporary crisis measure for state aid until March 31, 2024, or until the end of 2025, because of an expected new surge in electricity prices. The business insists that the mechanism for 100% compensation from the Electricity System Security Fund for prices higher than 100 euros per megawatt hour should be kept or that a similar mechanism must be agreed with the government.
