A postcard with a view of the newly built National Theatre and an inscription on the back - "Remembrance of the opening of the theatre. Josef Schmaha, 1907” - is part of a virtual exhibition that can be viewed on the website of the National History Museum

It is dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the founding of the National Theatre in Sofia, which opened its doors on January 3, 1904. ‎

Specialists from the National History Museum have collected archival photos, posters, documents and postcards related to the history of the emblematic building for the capital, as well as the activities of the theatre actors, directors and stage workers.

In the exhibition, one can also see a rarely shown shot of the wooden shed where the first performances were performed by the theater troupes "Osnova" and "Salza i smyah", which later merged and thus the National Theatre of Bulgaria was created.

The construction of the building lasted nearly 4 years. It was build on a architectural project by the famous Viennese architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer, as the funds for it were collected through the sale of stamps and lottery tickets, organized by the Sofia Municipality.‎
