In the beginning of next week - May 20, all Bulgarian state universities and some private universities will not open their doors as a warning. This is what an open letter distributed by the Council of Rectors in Bulgaria to the media reads.

Dissatisfaction is caused by non-fulfillment of the commitments undertaken by the state. With changes to the Higher Education Act adopted by the National Assembly in March, the salaries of lecturers in higher education institutions and research workers were actually increased. Now, however, the Council of Rectors say that the changes were followed by a "silent refusal to fulfill the obligations" under the amended law and "to provide the necessary funds".
