Yet another, already fifth attempt by MPs to elect a Parliamentary Speaker has failed. Four candidates were put to the vote - Natalia Kiselova from BSP-Unified Left, Petar Petrov from Vazrazhdane, Raya Nazaryan from GERB and Silvi Kirilov from ITN. Silvi Kirilov from ITN and Raya Nazaryan - GERB-SDS went to the ballot again. Kirillov received 101 votes in favour and 99  votes against". 68 MPs voted for Nazaryan and 150 against her nomination.

A sixth attempt to elect a Speaker of Parliament will be made on Wednesday, November 27, when the first session of parliament, which began on November 11, will resume.

The days-long election of the parliament speaker has been fuelled by the possibility, opened up by recent constitutional changes, that the Speaker of Parliament could be appointed as caretaker prime minister if parliament fails to form a regular cabinet. The caretaker government's duties include organising early elections.
