Atlas rock band marks 25 years

Photo: Архив
The Atlas rock band founded 25 years ago traveled a long way from country music to new wave to rock and melody pop. Initially a country trio, the band switched to new wave. Listen next to one of the emblematic pieces of that period “A Song about Truth”. The performance however is not the original version, but a remake.

The group first appeared internationally on stages in Russia and the Czech Republic. One of their 1992 compositions is “A Doll” on music by keyboard player Petar Popov, who joined the formation in 1989, and lyrics by Dimiter Voev, poet, composer and bass guitarist, who founded the New Generation dark wave band. The vocals belong to Donnie, nowadays a solo artist, who at that time was vocalist of the Atlas band. That song occupied the top position of the Bulgarian National Radio music chart for 64 weeks, and earned the group’s merited distinction as Best Bulgarian Band of 1991 and 1992.

The only one left of the original band is Pepi Pisarski, who is an architect by education, but for whom music has always been the most important thing in life. He has composed four songs for the band, one of which is “The Party Never Ends”. Pepi Pisarski also wrote the lyrics and the music arrangement to the song you will hear now.

In 2001 the band released the “Atlas: Collection” album, which marked the band’s 15th anniversary. It included some of the group’s total hits along with several new compositions. Coming up is one of the songs in that collection, “A Drop of Love”.

Having worked in the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany for many years, Pepi Pisarski finally settled in Bulgaria and managed to revive the Atlas band. Currently the band comprises Joro Georgiev, Minko Lambov, and Blagovest Zerliev, a.k.a Vesko, who is the vocalist. The distinctive mark of the band is beautiful lyrics and pleasant pop and rock melodies. The new songs are written by Pepi Pisarski and Vesko. “That Is How the Day Awakens” is a single from their forthcoming CD, which has been made into the first 3D stereoscopic video in Bulgaria shot against the backdrop of one of the most famous natural landmarks, the Belogradchik rocks.
