Winter tourism in Bulgaria remains stable but with minimal growth

The previous winter tourist season in Bulgaria was stable, with minimal growth thanks to Bulgarian tourists, Eurostat data show. The total number of nights spent in winter season 2018-2019 was over 4.7 million, which is 0.2% more on an annual basis. Foreigners spent almost 2 million nights, but a decline of 0.6% was registered. Bulgarians spent more than 2.7 million nights in the period, an increase of 0.8%. With an average occupancy rate of 40% in Europe in Bulgaria, the level is between 23% and 33%. This country is at the bottom of the EU chart in terms of growth in winter tourism. Poorer growth was reported only in Estonia, Italy and France.
