First foreign tourists for the season arrive at Bourgas airport by charter flight

The first foreign tourists have landed at Bourgas Airport by charter flight from the Netherlands. The group consists of 189 tourists from the Netherlands who will spend their holiday on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast. Most of them chose Sunny Beach and Nesebar and are visiting Bulgaria for the first time. Bulgaria is a safe holiday destination amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, the Dutch tourists told the Bulgarian National Radio.

166 new cases of Covid-19 in Bulgaria over past 24 hours

166 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours out of 2,775 tests made, data of the National Coronavirus Information System shows. Highest numbers of Covid-19 cases were registered in Sofia - 60, followed by Sofia district - 15 cases, Plovdiv - 13 and Kyustendil - 13. The total number of Covid-19 cases in this country rose to 4,408. A total of 2,370 Bulgarians have recovered from the virus so far, 107 of whom in the past 24 hours. 384 people are receiving medical treatment in hospitals, including 16 people in intensive care units. The Covid-19 death toll rose to 211. Two people died of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

Sofia Mayor: No tightening of Covid-19 measures in Sofia is necessary

“The coronavirus infection is now spreading diffusely in Sofia and no longer in clusters,” said Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova. However she added that “no tightening of the measures against the spread of Covid-19 in the capital city is necessary”,because at this stage they are sufficient. Yordanka Fandakova was commenting on the spike in coronavirus cases in Sofia.

Bulgaria’s MPs amend state budget due to Covid-19 crisis

Bulgaria’s MPs have approved by an absolute majority the second amendment to the 2020 State Budget Act. Thus, the maximum amount of state guarantees issued via the Council of Ministers is increased. The amendments allow Bulgaria to participate this year in two EU instruments for response to the coronavirus crisis.

Italian army blocks Bulgarian workers in area with coronavirus outbreak

Bulgarian seasonal workers are protesting in the Italian town of Mondragone near Naples in the town area blocked due to a coronavirus outbreak. The army interfered after some workers managed to break the police cordon. Clashes with furious locals who tried to push the workers towards their blocks of flats also broke out. 49 cases of Covid-19 have been registered among the 700 residents of 4 blocks of flats in the so-called red zone. Most of the people infected are Bulgarian nationals. The Bulgarian migrants who pick tomatoes in Italy fear they may lose their jobs.
