Monthly inflation in Bulgaria increases by 0.5%

In July 2020, monthly inflation in Bulgaria increased by 0.5%, while annual inflation slowed to 1.2%, data from the National Statistical Institute show. Average annual inflation for the period August 2019 - July 2020 increased by 2.6% compared to the period August 2018 - July 2019. 

In July, the prices of foodstuffs and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 1.4% compared to June, while those of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products decreased by 0.1% and for clothing and footwear - by 2.2%. 
The prices of housing, water, electricity and fuels increased by 1.7%, and the prices of household goods (housing equipment, household appliances and accessories) - by 0.2%. 
The costs for healthcare rose 0.2 percent, transportation 1.4 percent, and entertainment and culture prices jumped by 7.4 percent being hit the hardest by the Covid-19 crisis. 
The increase of prices in communications was by 0.5%, education - by 0.1%, and in restaurants and hotels - by 2%.
