Bulgarians have a traditionally negative attitude to the healthcare system, but over the past year there has been a positive trend, probably because of the coronavirus crisis.
63% of Bulgarians say that the healthcare system is going in a negative direction; a year ago this percentage was around 70, indicates a survey by Trend sociological agency conducted in August, 2020, and commissioned by the “Together for better health” initiative which includes the Bulgarian Medical Association.
52% of the respondents say that the Bulgarian healthcare system has tackled the problems connected with the pandemic, 26% - that it has not, 22% cannot say.
According to the respondents the problems in the system are: the large sums of money in additional payments for medical services (52%), the shortage of medical staff (42%), the poor state of hospitals and the large sums of money in additional payment for medicines (37%).
