Mediana: Forming a new government after the elections will be difficult

Photo: archive

President Rumen Radev is very close to winning the election for President in the first round, and if there were to be a runoff, his rival would be Prof. Anastas Gerdzhikov, indicate data from a survey by Mediana sociological agency, conducted with its own funds in the period from 4 to 8 November 2021. If there is a runoff of the presidential election, Rumen Radev will be vying with Anastas Gerdzhikov.

At this time the percentages given by the respondents are:

  • Rumen Radev – 48.3%
  • Anastas Gerdzhikov – 25.6%

Whether there will be a runoff depends on voter turnout. The law stipulates that for a president to have been elected in the first round of election, voter turnout has to be no less than 50%, or more than 3.35 million voters.

According to the survey, 6 or 7 parties would enter the next parliament, though the formation of a government will be difficult.

The percentages given by the respondents are as follows:

  • GERB - 24.4%
  • We Continue the Change17.3%
  • Bulgarian Socialist Party – 15.6%
  • There Is Such a People, The Movement for Rights and Freedoms and Democratic Bulgaria are neck and neck for 4th position with results ranging from 10% to 12%.

At 4.2%, Stand Up.BG! We Are Coming! stand a chance of entering the next National Assembly, the electoral threshold being 4%.

According to Mediana, even though GERB is in the lead, its return to power does not seem possible at this time. According to the agency, forming a government will be difficult, as it will take at least a 4-party coalition.
