Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) Governor Dimitar Radev warned that the dynamics of the political processes in Bulgaria will determine whether Bulgaria will join the euro zone in January 2024. The adoption of 100 legislative texts is needed, including a law on the adoption of the euro.
"The whole process of joining the eurozone is very much a function of the political process. We have had a major change in this process since yesterday. So it is very important how this process will develop from now on. This could speed up or slow down the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria," said Dimitar Radev.
Because of the political events of last year the process was significantly delayed and now we have 18 months to complete it, he added during a joint meeting of the parliamentary committees on budget and finance and on European affairs. Both committees are discussing a draft law for approval of the national plan for the introduction of the euro.
