Minister Ivanov

Bulgaria has called on the Council of Agriculture of the EU for a careful approach to the free transit of produce from Ukraine and Moldova. Minister Ivan Ivanov pointed out that instead of transit passage, the Ukrainian sunflower remains in Bulgaria and is sold at lower prices, while there is also a problem with the phytosanitary control over imports.

Ivanov has expressed concern that the significant rise in duty-free quotas for apples, plums and grape from Moldova compromises the competitiveness of Bulgarian producers and farmers from all over Eastern Europe.

Bulgaria has reported that it expects a good harvest of autumn crops for 2022/2023, which will be sufficient for domestic consumption and for export.
