EU farmers plan protests against uncontrolled import of grain from Ukraine

Farmers from 12 countries, including Bulgaria, are planning joint protest action against the lack of control in the import of grain from Ukraine.

They say that from 14 to 16 September they are going to block European capitals with heavy machinery, Kostadin Kostadinov, chairman of the Gain Producers Association announced for the BNR. The aim of the demonstration is a ban on the import of grain treated with pesticides, unauthorized in the EU. “Europe permitted these imports but this means it is leading its own farmers to bankruptcy,” Kostadinov commented.

Farmers in this country can now apply for state aid for overcoming the consequences of the war in Ukraine. The sum set down for assisting farmers is 426 million Leva (EUR 217.81 million).
