The two draft resolutions on providing military assistance to Ukraine tabled in Parliament by Democratic Bulgaria and GERB, sparked heated debates at a presidential council in the National Assembly today. The resolutions are to be considered in two parliamentary committees, the military and foreign affairs committees, once the committees are formed.

President Rumen Radev warned that taking arms from the Bulgarian Army at the moment would deepen the deficit of capabilities at a time when the security environment is worsening not only to the north but also in the Balkans.

According to GERB and Democratic Bulgaria, by sending arms to Kiev, Bulgaria will have the opportunity to acquire more advanced NATO weaponry.

The MRF and "We Continue the Change" also agree with the idea of providing military aid to Ukraine.

Stefan Yanev of "Bulgarian Rise" said his his party supports arms exports to Ukraine as a business and would back such a decision if it is linked to the modernisation of Bulgaria's defence capabilities.

BSP leader Kornelia Ninova was adamant that the left would not support military aid to Ukraine.
