Parliament votes in favour of rendering Ukraine military assistance

With 148 votes “for”, GERB-SDS, We Continue the Change, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Democratic Bulgaria and Bulgarian Rise supported the draft decision for rendering military and military-technical assistance to Ukraine, submitted by the Council of Ministers in pursuance of the parliamentary decision from 3 November for rendering military and military-technical assistance to Ukraine and reinforcing Bulgaria’s defence capabilities.

46 MPs from the Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, and Vazrazhdane voted against, and 1 from We Continue the Change abstained. From the Bulgarian Socialist Party, one MP – Yavor Bozhankov voted for sending military aid. “I am absolutely convinced of my position, with a clear understanding of what the consequences might be for me, but I am convinced of one thing – Russia is not going to win this war,” Yavor Bozhankov stated in plenary. After making this statement, the BSP parliamentary group voted unanimously to expel Bozhankov, and urged him to leave parliament and open a seat for the next person on the party ticket.
