Bulgarian PM prepares for visit to Austria regarding Schengen

Ukraine appreciates that Bulgaria's decision not to extend the ban on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products was not an easy one, commented Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel on the sidelines of the UN Summit in New York. "But precisely because we express solidarity in this moment of difficulty and have the power to take such decisions, it is appreciated," said Gabriel, who previously held meetings with Ukrainian and Romanian presidents Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Klaus Iohannis and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. She welcomed the decision of Bulgaria and Romania not to continue the ban.

Foreign Minister Gabriel stated that because of Vienna's veto against the admission of Bulgaria to the Schengen area, a visit of the Bulgarian prime minister to Austria is planned. "But I think that when you go on a visit, you go when you are close to a result. We want to do our job first," explained Gabriel.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Gabriel signed for Bulgaria the Agreement to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biodiversity in the Free Ocean Areas beyond national jurisdiction.
