Rosen Zhelyazkov expressed concern over “the unprecedented military activities of the Russian Federation in the region of the Black Sea, and more specifically the increasing militarization of the Crimean Peninsula”, and added that Bulgaria does not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea.
Later, at a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Rosen Zhelyazkov said that Bulgaria supports all twelve EU sanctions packages imposed on Russia "in response to its illegal military aggression against Ukraine".
