About 50 activists and politicians from the Vazrazhdane party blocked the entrance to the Port Terminal Burgas West for two hours. They did so in response to the Constitutional Court's decision to reject the request to hold a national referendum on keeping the Bulgarian lev until 2043.
"We are protesting against the shameless actions of the Constitutional Court, which has trampled on the will of 604 thousand Bulgarian citizens who want to be asked if and when we should join the eurozone," said Alexander Koychev, deputy head of Burgas City Council.

"We will not submit to such a state institution controlled by foreign embassies or foreign agents," added MP Boris Aladzhov.

The protest led to a kilometre-long queue of lorries and cars at the port entrance.

The protesters said they would continue their actions in different parts of the country.
