The outbreak of new military conflicts in the world and Russia's full-scale war of attrition against Ukraine confront the defence industry and science with new unknown challenges, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said at the opening of the Hemus 2024 International Defence Exhibition in Plovdiv.
"Lack of sufficient production capacity, rapid invasion and clash on the battlefield of new technologies and artificial intelligence lead to high asymmetric effect. The challenges can only be tackled by NATO and EU countries joining forces. The deployment of governmental and non-governmental organizations, business entities and scientific units is needed", Radev added.

"Bulgaria is determined to develop its own defence capacity and contribute to strengthening the collective defence of NATO's eastern flank," the President further stressed.
