Imagine more than 60 km of coastline with 21 beaches, a wide range of accommodation - hotels, guesthouses, campsites. Restaurants, sports and entertainment facilities, and most of all - the beautiful nature of the Strandzha Mountains! No wonder that Tsarevo is a tourist magnet and one of our most populated seaside municipalities in the height of summer. The season in this part of Bulgaria's southern Black Sea coast started at the end of May, when the hotels in Lozenets and Tsarevo welcomed the first eager summer visitors from Poland and the Czech Republic, we learn from Marin Kirov, the mayor of Tsarevo municipality, in an interview with Radio Bulgaria.

According to him, more and more Bulgarians and foreign tourists are willing to buy property and spend their holidays in the local resorts. How is the season going and what is new this year?

"We have a large number of owners from Russia and Ukraine in the holiday complexes in the village of Lozenets - says Marin Kirov - We also have a lot of tourists from Poland and the Czech Republic, as there are hotels in Lozenets and Tsarevo that work with tour operators who have a strong foothold in these markets.

We have guests from Finland and Germany and we are trying to attract Bulgarian tourists as well. But most of all we want to encourage people to buy property in the region - apartments and houses in the towns of Lozenets, Ahtopol and Tsarevo - people who will come back year after year. People who own property here and come back permanently - this is the more serious segment of tourism that we are targeting.

According to Marin Kirov, one of the advantages of Tsarevo municipality is the proximity of Strandzha Mountain with its beautiful villages, which is a strong attraction for tourists:

"These are the villages of Brodilovo, Kosti and Bulgari, famous for their traditional Bulgarian fire dancers," says Marin Kirov. "You can find there amazing jewels, masterpieces of faith - perfectly preserved churches, chapels. These villages offer a wealth of cultural experiences, including music festivals, local cuisine and traditional customs. So you can combine a seaside holiday with a touch of authentic Strandzha folklore and cuisine".

For the summer months, the municipality has prepared a rich cultural and entertainment programme with a series of festivals and open-air events. Almost every evening there is a concert, exhibition, theatre or folklore performance.

"This year, in addition to the traditional jazz festivals, the Tsarevo art festival Art Potok, celebrations of traditional holidays such as the Nestinar dances, we started the season with a new art initiative in the village of Lozenets, where world-famous graffiti artists painted the entire wall of the fishing pier.

This is the largest graffiti project on our Black Sea coast. The wall is about 80 metres long, all painted with sea creatures. There are several new art projects in Ahtopol and Lozenets. And the traditional fish festival, which will take place in Tsarevo on 7 September, will be enhanced with a very serious laser show," promises Marin Kirov.

In recent months, the municipality has managed to attract significant funding from European programmes and the state budget. A brand new medical centre is being built in Tsarevo, which will also serve tourists. And much more:

"We are starting to build a multi-purpose sports hall and a football pitch - facilities that will help extend the tourist season and attract athletes, football teams, etc. We have also managed to secure funding for major road repairs in the villages of Fazanovo and Brodilovo. The municipality is investing in the entire infrastructure so that we can improve the lives of local people and the stay of our guests," concluded Marin Kirov.
