Bulgaria Today – 3 March 2024

| updated on 3/3/25 10:23 AM

Hello and welcome to "Bulgaria Today" on Bulgaria’s National Day of Liberation, March 3!

On our podcast today, we have a special programme dedicated to March 3, with a focus on history and Bulgarian music in the spirit of the day.

Stay with us to learn about Felix Kanitz – the cartographer of Bulgaria’s National Revival. The Austro-Hungarian researcher was the first West European to have travelled to more than 3,200 towns and villages in Bulgaria.

We also recall one of the bloodiest events in national memory – the Batak massacre of 1876.

At the end of our festive podcast we bring you the song “This is Bulgaria” to the rendition of Mariya Angelova.

  •  05’58 – Felix Kanitz- the cartographer of Bulgaria’s National Revival

  • 14’01 – Batak is a symbol of history written in blood that must not be forgotten

  • 21’11 – Song of the day
