In case of EU sanctions against Russia, risks for Bulgaria are economic

Photo: archive

The risk for Bulgaria stemming from possible European Union sanctions against Russia and counter actions are economic ones, MP of the Bulgarian Socialist Party Georgi Kadiev told the Bulgarian National Radio in an interview. Bulgaria imports from Russia products worth some 4.7 billion euro, the vast majority of them being oil and gas. Our exports to Russia totals 600 million euro, the MP said. According to Mr. Kadiev, Bulgaria's position must be based on the principle: "Never against Russia, never against the EU." The true skill is to find common ground between the two positions, Mr. Kadiev said, adding that if tension in Ukraine escalated, the president should convene the Advisory Council on National Security.
