According to the President of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria, the Member of the Economic and Social Council in Bulgaria and Budget Group Member of the European Economic and Social Committee Plamen Dimitrov, the number of the Bulgarian farms in 2010 amounted to 370,200, whereas in 2013 their number came to 253,000 only. The negative trend regards the job positions in the agriculture field, too. This is due to the lower number of the cooperative societies, the lower number of the Bulgarian farms and the reforms in the sector. The number of the people employed in the sector fell from 1,350,000 in 2003 to 740,000 in 2010. In 2013 their number dwindled to 655,000 people, Plamen Dimitrov further pointed out. As a whole, the national statistics shows that the number of the Bulgarian farms and people employed at the sector was reduced by half, Mr. Dimitrov said.
