At a briefing in the Ministry of the Interior the Director General of the European Anti-Fraud Office Giovanni Kessler said that Bulgaria is in need of reforms in those institutions engaged with the fight against frauds and corruption. “I am glad to be here and meet the Minister of the Interior Vesselin Vuchkov as well as other ministers and representatives of the prosecution office. There should be a clear message for cooperation in this sphere and clear cut engagements and demonstration of results. These cases of frauds should be investigated, unveiled and sanctioned. We are working together in this direction because that is of common interest” Giovanni Kessler further said.

In his turn, Bulgarian Interior Minister Vesselin Vuchkov said the following: “I shared with Giovanni Kessler that the place of the Directorate Protection of the EU Financial Interests – AFCOS, which is the point of contact for working with OLAF would remain unchanged and will remain part of the Interior Ministry. I am glad to find that the new European Commission and the new ice-President Kristalina Georgieva have the responsible approach towards countering frauds. Bulgaria’s support for the idea at the EU level for the formation of a European prosecution office for fighting frauds with EU funds remains unchanged”, Minister Vuchkov said after his meeting with OLAF DG Giovanni Kessler.
