Workers of Varna TPP protest against plant closure

Photo: library

Workers of the Varna TPP have issued a protest declaration against the closure of the plant as of January 1, 2015. The document calls on the state to regain control of the plant, which is currently owned by CEZ. Trade unions say that closing the plant will leave 300 workers without jobs. Furthermore, stopping the powerplant poses a real risk of disruption in the power supply in northeastern Bulgaria. Varna Governor Stoyan Pasev promised to set up a working group to discuss possible options for dealing with the situation.
