Foreign investments are 20% down on previous year

Direct foreign investments (DFI) in Bulgaria for the eleven months of 2014 lag behind with over 20% compared to the same period of the preceding year. Early figures from the Central Bank (BNB) show that for the period in question they amount to EUR 1.224 billion. The alarming signal about the confidence of the investors in the business climate in Bulgaria comes from the collapse in investments in share capital – almost the double – from EUR 861.1 million in January-November 2013 to EUR 441.8 million for the same period of 2014. Investments in share capital are viewed as an index about whether investors have long-term plans in a given country. The largest investors in Bulgaria since the start of the year in question are Holland (EUR 660.6 million), Austria (231.4 million), Switzerland (EUR 180.8 million)and Russia (EUR 179.1 million), while Germany has drawn back the largest amount of investments (EUR -211.7 million).
