Bulgarian nationals in Greece warned not to pick up hitchhikers

Photo: library

The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry has cautioned Bulgarian nationals who are in Greece not to pick up hitchhikers. The ministry is issuing this warning because of the complicated migrant situation and the passage of large numbers of illegal immigrants and refugees inside the country. In Greece, picking up immigrant hitchhikers is treated as a serious criminal offence entailing two years of imprisonment for each hitchhiker. More than 160,000 refugees have entered the country since the beginning of 2015, Reuters reports.
