Bulgaria sends military along border because of police resource shortage

The group of 25 Bulgarian military sent to support Border Police forces for the protection of the country’s border with Macedonia, is entitled only with the right to observe and not to detain people, said Bulgarian Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov. The unit disposes with the lightest possible armed vehicles and is sent to the spot due to the insufficient resource of the Ministry of the Interior. The latter is predominantly engaged with the guarding of Bulgaria’s border with Turkey. On the occasion of the enhanced migration pressure towards Macedonia and Serbia and the various reactions of these two countries as to how the situation should be coped with, Minister Mitov called the countries of Southeast Europe to make an effort to integrate for dealing with common problems and show they can solve them jointly.
