No GMOs on Bulgarian territory

The EC has confirmed for the BNR the receiving of Bulgaria’s demand to ban any GMO plants on its territory. The companies that have declared their intention to plant GMO cultures here have now 30 days to answer whether they agree, the spokesperson of the EC Enrico Brivio has pointed out. If the companies reject the demand, Bulgaria has a second chance to impose the ban – it has to present once again its reasoned statement, under another directive, pointing at reasons of significant public interest – for instance, related to the policies in the spheres of environmental protection, agriculture, or social and economic consequences.
